Specialty Seed Growers of Western OR (SSGWO) – Annual Grant Program

Proposal(s):

Proposal(s) should focus on research important to Oregon’s specialty seed crop production. Research may be basic or applied. Preference will be given to proposals that may eventually lead to practical products or practices. Research priorities for the 2023-24 application cycle includes (but not limited to):

  • Symphylan control
  • Irrigation
  • Quantity and timing of irrigation
  • How soon irrigation can be stopped without affecting seed quality
  • Weed control
  • Extending “dry bulb” onion herbicide labeling to include green onions

The proposal deadline is 11:59 p.m. December 8, 2023. Late proposals will not be accepted. Submit to: SSGWO Administrator via email at smith@pacwestcom.com.

Below is a suggested format for proposal requests. Please use single spaced text with 12-point font and 1-inch margins. Awards will be decided by the SSGWO Board of Directors and Research Committee, which consists of specialty seed crop producers and industry representatives.

  • Impact
  • References cited (six maximum)
  • Duration of study
  • Budget

Awards:

Awards will be announced and funds will be available by early February 2024. The maximum award will be $12,500. The project must be completed within two years unless an extension is granted or additional proposals for funding are requested and approved.

Progress Reports:

We ask that written progress reports be no longer than 3 single-spaced pages. In addition to the reports due June 18, 2024, and September 18, 2024, a 10-15 minute verbal presentation will be requested at the annual SSGWO membership meeting, the first Tuesday of February.
